Dark And Modern Guest Bathroom Renovation

This bathroom in our bungalow style house we’re renovating ended up being one of my favorite rooms in the house at the end! It needed a complete gut and transformation from floor to ceiling, which are always my favorite projects. I love taking a room and starting from scratch.

In this post I’ll go over what we did to take this …

… and turn it into THIS

Time to plan!

First, out with the old.

We removed the tub, all the tile, vanity, toilet, and even the trim in the room and started repairs. We tore everything out, and naturally I got ahead of myself and started planning the fun fixtures!

I ended up deciding on the top light fixture for the vanity lighting, and I loved loved LOVED the unique shape of the ceiling light. Getting golds to match is tough so I usually keep it to a minimum, but I really wanted pops of gold to shine against all of the black we were putting in this bathroom.

Tile

Next, my favorite part of any bathroom- TILE! Tile is where I start with bathrooms and I design around that. I think I would tile my whole house if I could. Since we knew we wanted a lot of black in this bathroom, it was pretty easy to pick some tile for this project. We used a small hexagon tile from Floor and Decor on the floors that you can find here.

We also added a half wall of tile behind the vanity which turned out stunning in the end. That tile is here.

For the tile around the bathtub we went with a textured off white subway tile like we often do. It’s a great tile for around the tubs, especially if you’re a beginner at tiling because the texture makes the mistakes a bit less noticeable.

Finishing touches

We added one of our favorite Home Depot vanities with this gold faucet. We hung this mirror which I think added a focal point to that wall that was needed, and put these sconces on each side.

For the tub, I used this fixture set. I always stage the houses using these amber bottles for the showers, and I keep some in my house to replace normal soap dispensers- they’re so cute!
