Kitchen And Pantry Plans, Update, And Mood Board

We have a few houses in progress right now and this week has been a doozy! In the house I’m talking about today, the kitchen is finally taking shape, and will eventually be the best part of this house. We really moved some walls around and created a whole new layout (and a walk-in pantry!) as well as some really cool design details I’m excited about.

Here’s the kitchen last week- we’ve removed counters, tile, and extra hardware, and prepared the cabinets to be painted.

Layout

I think to really understand what we’re doing here, you’ll need to see the original and new floor plans of this space. In the original you can see the living room, old dining space, extra space, kitchen, and hall.

Old layout

New layout

A breakdown of what we did:

  • Closed off the wall between the living room and old dining room. This way, we get more space to place furniture in the living room and are able to create a walk-in pantry.
  • Closed off the front of the dining room, but a few feet further back. We needed to close that wall for the pantry, but we wanted a wet bar area in the front of that wall, with what will be the new dining room.
  • Added a door in the hallway to enter the new walk-in pantry.

The vision:

We’re removing some of the upper kitchen cabinets to open up the space, but keeping most of them. We’re rarely able to keep kitchen cabinets, but this house’s cabinets were in such great shape we knew we needed to restore them! I was inspired by this kitchen, and chose to use Van Buren Brown by Benjamin Moore to paint the cabinets. We also picked out a stunning dramatic slab that I’m in love with for the counters.

Overall, I’m SO excited with this new floor plan and to see the vision come to life. I think the pantry will be such a beneficial add-on to this home and the wet bar will be a fun focal point. As always, I’ll keep you all updated on how this space turns out!
