Hey everyone! It’s been a hot minute since my last blog post, but I’ve been busy putting the final touches on the lake house i’ve been designing and renovating, including this massive primary bathroom I’m going to show you today!
When we got this house it was clear the primary bathroom and closet space wasn’t being utilized to it’s potential, so some of the biggest changes we made were adding a spacious double shower, and adding space to the walk-in closet.
In this post I’ll go over everything I did to take the bathroom from this…
To this…
We kept the general shape of this bathroom the same, but took the space where the shower used to be and added it to the closet for extra storage. We nixed the old bathtub with carpeted stairs and added a luxurious double shower with a large bench and hidden nooks, which makes this bathroom feel so updated and actually utilizes the huge space we had!
If you haven’t kept up with this project you might’ve missed the plans we made. As a reminder, here’s the mood-board I made before this project. Some of the details got changed, but the overall look we were going for stayed the same!
Vanity
One fun thing we got to do in this bathroom is we actually got to keep the original vanity! It was clearly custom made for that bathroom and in really good shape, plus it was really long, so it would’ve been hard to replace. I’ve been loving Van Buren Brown by Benjamin Moore and previously used them on kitchen cabinets, so choosing that color was actually my first design choice for this bathroom.
Tile
For the shower, I love an accent wall. I wanted a clean, bright, and timeless feel without being too boring. To achieve that I picked a classic off-white tile, but with texture and color variance to make it more interesting. For the accent wall I chose this really large format faux marble looking tile to give it a pop of something interesting. That tile has a hint of gold veining which goes so nicely with the gold hardware and accents.
Hardware & Accessories
Lately I’ve been loving a mix of black and brass or gold instead of picking just one. To do that, I choose a few pieces that are black and gold (like the sink faucets here) then I feel free to mix and match metals as much as I want around that. I wanted the main focus to be brass so I got a brass shower door, sconces, mirror, and shower hardware. I added black vanity hardware and a black drain to balance it out.
The shower hardware was surprisingly affordable, and I think it’s my favorite part of the bathroom. A double shower was a great choice and makes the shower look incredible.
We had originally chosen a really cool arched mirror (in the mood board photo) but once it was installed it didn’t fill the wall space enough so we had to go with a longer mirror. We chose this one and I love that it reaches sconce to sconce.
The sconces we used are these AllModern sconces that I’ve used in a few houses now and I love them for this bathroom.
Final reveal!
Here it is! this once carpeted beauty with a tiny shower and non-working tub is now this!
Favorites: My favorite part of this bathroom is definitely the shower hardware. They have an antique feel while being incredibly modern in this space. Plus, they were super affordable making them a no-brainer.
Budget: Excluding labor, our supplies for this bathroom hit right around $4,000!
What I learned: As always, your dreams can only go so far when there’s plumbing, electrical, and other things behind the walls you have to think of. We had to make a few last minute decisions based around a ventilation system stopping me from adding another sconce, and ran into some trouble adding two shower faucets. Biggest lesson in every house is know when to pivot.
