Primary Bathroom Design Plan & Mood Board

I haven’t shared anything about our newest flip yet, but we recently bought a house on a lake that I am so excited to renovate! We’re gutting the whole house (except a few vanities!) and have tons of ideas, and I can’t wait to share everything with you guys! There will be tons of posts made detailing everything we’re doing, down to the details.

I’ve spent this week designing the primary bathroom and the kitchen, since I think those two rooms will be the big wow-factors in this house, I really want it planned well before we get started.

Before

As you can see, there’s actually a really good amount of space in this bathroom, it’s just not used how I’d like it. Right now there’s an old tub area, as well as a small shower in the room with the toilet. We don’t need both the shower and tub, so we’ll be moving some stuff around.

Here’s what we’ll be doing:

  • Removing the tub and turning that area into a large walk in shower with double shower heads.
  • Removing the small shower that’s currently next to the toilet, and scooting the toilet over (to the right) into the old shower space.
  • Extending the closet where the toilet used to be.
  • Keeping the vanity, just making it taller, painting it, and adding a new top.

It’s a bit confusing without seeing it in person, and the floor plan I tried to draw up is laughable, but we’re just making some small changes and moving one wall to make better use of space. Plus, walking into the bathroom and seeing a huge walk-in updated shower will be so much better than seeing the carpeted stairs you see now.

Design

My thought process for this bathroom was that I wanted something pretty, white-ish, and neutral, while not settling for boring. So, here’s what I came up with!

The shower:

We’re transforming the tub area to one large walk in shower with double shower heads, a bench, and hidden soap cubbies. My idea for now is to place the large (24×48) marble tile on the back wall as an accent, and have the small tile on the side walls. The right wall will have the double shower heads, and the left wall will have the bench! We’ll place two little soap cubbies inside the wall between the vanity and shower so they’re hidden and not distracting.

The vanity

This vanity that came with the house is huge and in great shape, so we decided to keep it, with some updating of course! I’ll be painting the vanity cabinet Van Buren Brown by Benjamin Moore, adding a new granite counter, new hardware, and a new mirror and lighting layout.

I had originally wanted two mirrors with a sconce on each side and one in the middle, but halfway through we learned there’s some important vents behind the wall, stopping us from creating a center light. So, we switched to one large mirror with a sconce on each side, which I still really like! I found this mirror from home depot that i’m so excited to use!

I still need to find hardware for the vanity and a shower door, so if you have any favorites, let me know!

Well, that’s our update! This bathroom should be complete in a few weeks and of course, as always, I’ll share every detail on here so keep an eye out or sign up to receive our emails that notify you of important updates or posts!
